Praised for her “Lorengar-like shimmer” and “high-octane emotionalism” (Parterre) Lydia Grindatto is a current Resident Artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts, where she recently appeared in the roles of Anna in Anna Bolena, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Violetta in La traviata and Tatyana in Eugene Onegin. In 2024,  Lydia made her house debuts with Arizona Opera and Columbus Opera, reprising the roles of Donna Anna in Don Giovanni and Tatyana in Eugene Onegin.

 

In 2024-2025, Lydia makes 5 role debuts and 4 house debuts, including her European debut as Léonore in Verdi's Le Trouvère. Other performances include Marguerite in Gounod's Faust (Academy of Vocal Arts), Juliette in Roméo et Juliette (Company TBA), Nedda in Pagliacci (Utah Opera) and Anne Trulove in The Rake's Progress (The Glimmerglass Festival).

In the 2023 season, she made her house debut at the Santa Fe Opera in the role of Second Sprite in addition to covering the title role in Dvořák’s Rusalka. Lydia has been recently recognized as a winner in several prestigious competitions, including the Grand Prize at the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, Opera Index, The Loren L. Zachary Society Competition and the Gerda Lissner Foundation Competition, as well as winning the top prize in AVA’s Giargiari Bel Canto Competition.

Lydia has appeared as a featured soloist in various concert settings, including chamber ensemble Antigua y Moderna, the University of New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, and the AVA orchestra. In 2023, Lydia was invited to perform popular opera selections alongside featured guest Michael Fabiano with Italiana is in the Air at the Washington Memorial. In 2024, Lydia was a guest artist at the Sag Harbor Song Festival, performing operatic and musical theatre hits alongside a roster of rising star artists. 

​Originally from New Mexico, Lydia holds a B.M. in Vocal Performance from the University of New Mexico, where she began her musical training and performed several seasons with Opera Southwest, including Violetta (cover) in La traviata and Erste Edelknabe in Wagner’s Lohengrin.
